Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, sought an affordable solution to meet the space, accessibility, and traffic flow needs of a growing parish.

Noelker and Hull completed a feasibility study for a 3,630-square-foot church addition and 7,810-square-foot renovation to the existing historic church and school facility.

Corpus Christi is the largest parish in Franklin County with more than 1,400 families; however, their main church is a historic structure with a seating capacity of only 400.

In addition to limited seating, other challenges included inadequate space for gathering, inconvenient locations for overflow seating and restroom facilities, as well as limited parking.

The new narthex creates a multipurpose space for gathering opportunities and parish ministry activities, provides a comfortable worship alternative for the needs of young families, and improves accessibility to the existing worship space.

Extensive site work eliminated traffic bottlenecks and expanded parking opportunities.

In March 2020, the church held a “brick-breaking” ceremony that kicked off project demolition. One year later, a ground-breaking event was held to celebrate the start of construction. In June 2022, the new Narthex was dedicated.

A collaborative effort with general contractor Brechbill and Helman Construction, the completed project results in a beautiful and affordable solution that meets the church’s needs, now and into the future.
